How to Connect & Test PayPal

Here’s how to set up PayPal so you can start receiving payments for your show — in both test mode (Sandbox) and real mode (Live)

This quick video walks you through everything — from creating your PayPal app to testing your first transaction. Follow along step-by-step to start accepting payments with PayPal in minutes!

✅ Before You Start

• You’ll need a PayPal Business account
• You’ll need access to your PayPal Developer Dashboard 👉 https://developer.paypal.com

🔐 Step 1: Log In to PayPal Developer

1. Go to https://developer.paypal.com
2. Log in with your PayPal Business account

🧪 Step 2: Create a Sandbox App

1. In the menu, go to Dashboard → My Apps & Credentials
2. Under Sandbox, click Create App
3. Name it something like: Hiro.fm Test
4. Click Create App
5. Name the app “Hiro.fm“

📋 Step 3: Copy Your Sandbox API Keys

1. Once your app is created, scroll to see:
   • Client ID
   • Secret
2. Copy both and paste them into Hiro in the Sandbox section
   • (In Hiro: Settings → PayPal Integration → Sandbox)

💳 Step 4: Create Your Live App

1. Back in PayPal, switch to the Live tab (top of the My Apps page)
2. Click Create App
3. Name it something like: Hiro.fm Live
4. Click Create App

📋 Step 5: Copy Your Live API Keys

1. Again, copy your Live Client ID and Secret
2. Paste them into the Live section in Hiro
3. Click Save PayPal Details at the bottom

🧪 Step 6: Test Your Setup with a Sandbox Buyer

1. Go to: https://developer.paypal.com/dashboard/accounts
2. Click Create Account
3. Choose Personal account (this simulates your test buyer)
4. Save the email and password — you’ll need it to test payments

🛒 Step 7: Test the Purchase Flow

1. In Hiro, make sure test mode is ON
2. Visit your sales page and click the Buy button
3. Fill out any required listener info
4. Click the Pay with PayPal button
5. A PayPal popup will open — use the sandbox personal account email + password
6. Choose the payment method and complete the purchase

If everything is set up correctly, you’ll see a success message and the listener will be granted access to your show.

🚨 Final Step: Go Live!

Once you’re done testing:

1. In Hiro, turn OFF test mode
2. Real buyers will now be charged and you’ll receive payments in your PayPal account
